I became a granny at an unexpected time. I didn’t plan to be a young grandmother, but it happened. In the long run, I do not have any regret because this is one of the best things that transpired in my life. I wrote this book to share with you the genuine joy along with the struggle of becoming a grandparent.
Grandparents are a valuable resource because they have so many stories and experiences from their own lives to share. Sometimes children listen more to their grandparents than to their own parents or other adults in the family.
I’ve found out through experience that grand parenting is difficult as we think. Some circumstances bring real hardship to what should be a joy-filled grand parenting journey. I’ve known a grandmother who freaks out or cried through difficulties. Maybe I am that grandmother too.
It’s hard to speculate about what went wrong because family is too complex. We are all vulnerable, entitled to own opinion, and sometimes problem sinks in and hard to explain. This makes grandparenting story unique and amusing and challenging.
Some grandparents that are near to their grandchildren, and yet they do not see each other frequently. There are grandparents who step in as parents to their grandchildren after the parents died, or after a divorce. There are long distance parents reaching out to their grandchildren every day. Consider too the single grandparents, estranged grandparents, step grandparents and alike.
It isn’t perfect all the time; it is just making the most of it. Without a child; a grandparent is just a parent as is. Thus, it’s about embracing and making the most of the opportunity to be called grandmother or grandfather by our grandchildren.
Focus on the foundational truth that brings meaning to you and your grandchildren. Grip on that and dedicate yourself fully to it. There’s no other way to invest in the future than giving our very best for our grandchildren. It is about preserving that name given to us with dignity and pride.

Truly, grandparents’ presence in the family and in kids’ lives is very important as they provide the wisdom, knowledge, and experience from the life they have lived. Though there are many hardships and challenges in being a grandparent, especially at an early age, I believes that the fun and joy brought by grandkids far outweigh these cons.
